To do this go to start>run then type in "regedit" and click ok
Once in the registry editor select h_keyCurrentuser>software>microsoft>windows>current version>policies>explorer
once there create a new dword value named "NoDesktop" after this is created double click it and change the value in the box to 1 instead of 0 click ok close the registry and restart the computer
*PooF* the Desktop is no longer there
(this same trick can be used to do other things by creating alternate DWORD values)
