WE used to pull this on all the new people that would come to work at a large computer store.
The code to get into the paging system was '802'. In order to page over the intercom you could pick up the phone and dial '802'.
The extensions for incoming calles were '7195', '7280' etc... We would page one of the new guys that he had, "A call holding on 8020." The fish would go after the bait, and 99.99% of the time there would be a 1 minute pause, then a beep over the loud speaker (from the last '0' being pressed). Then the victim's voice...
"CompUSA this is Jim..." ... "CompUSA this is Jim..?" ... "Hello this is Jim..?"
No new fish wants to hang up on a customer so it usually took a few moments before they would hand up, and then there would be that moment when they would notice themselves over the PA system. Then they would look around and see their co-workers doubled over in laughter...
